As Dominica continues efforts to strengthen agricultural production and food security, stakeholders from across Government, agriculture and civil society have come together to help shape a more coordinated approach to the integration of migrant labour within the sector.

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) Dominica, in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Blue and Green Economy, hosted a Technical Validation Workshop on the Policy and Action Plan for Integrating Migrant Labour into the Agricultural Sector of Dominica at the Prevost Cinemall.

For decades, Caribbean people have spoken about regional integration. We celebrate CARICOM, promote Caribbean tourism and proudly declare that we are one Caribbean. Yet, for many of us, travelling from one Caribbean island to another remains prohibitively expensive.

If you are Dominican, particularly if you travel, work internationally or create content for audiences outside the Caribbean, chances are you have had to explain the difference.

We laugh about it. We correct people. We have become accustomed to explaining ourselves.

But perhaps the bigger question is: why are we still carrying a European name in the first place?

Dominica’s passport ranks 60th globally in the 2026 Passport Reports data, with a mobility score of 136 and access to 68.7% of destinations worldwide without a conventional pre-departure visa.

The report records 94 visa-free destinations, 36 destinations available through visa-on-arrival or other simplified-entry arrangements, and six requiring electronic travel authorisation.
